Ministry of Works&Transport : Department of Road Transport and Safety :

The Department of Road Transport and Safety being one of the six (6) Departments within the Ministry of Works and Transport owes its existence to the reorganization of the Ministry back in the 1970's. The function of the department were partially conducted by the then Transport Promotion and Control Division and being headed by Transport Secretary. Transport Promotion and Control Division was concerned with issuance of permits to public road transport service and freight vehicles. As a matter of fact most of the functions, which are transport related, were not performed.

Mission

“Make travel in Botswana secure safer and efficient through public education, driver education and licensing, registration and licensing of vehicles, transport operators, motor dealers, number plate manufactures, driving schools and instructors”.

We commit ourselves to providing these services, in partnership with our stakeholders, in a caring, transparent, timely and professional manner, as well as, in accordance with the relevant legislation, national policies and development plans, budget allocations and Vision 2016.
